  9. This maintenance release fixes a bug in Eudora that caused "Unimplemented
  10. Trap" crashes when running previous versions of Eudora on PowerMac 9500s.
  11. It also changes the splash screen to reflect the new Eudora product name --
  12. Eudora Pro.  Current Eudora licensees now have all the core e-mail
  13. functionality that new users who purchase Eudora Pro will be receiving,
  14. including spell checking.  At this time, the TCP/IP connection software and
  15. Internet service provider offer included in the off-the-shelf Eudora Pro
  16. product are not being made available as part of an update package.  This
  17. could change in the future based on customer demand.

  31. Minimum Requirements
  32. --------------------

  34. In order to use Eudora on your Macintosh, the following minimum
  35. requirements must be met:
  36.  
  37. - System 7 or later
  38. - Access to SMTP and POP3 services through a network or an Internet Service
  39. Provider
  40.

  43. Installation
  44. ------------
  45.  
  46. To update your Eudora software, double-click the Eudora 2.1.3 updater file.
  47. The updater program will prompt you through the update process. Please be
  48. aware that the updater program will only work on unmodified copies of Eudora
  49. 2.1.2. If you have changed the program with a resource editor (i.e.,
  50. Resedit), the update will not work. You must re-install the original version
  51. of Eudora 2.1.2 prior to running the updater.

  53. NOTE: If you are running a version of Eudora by QUALCOMM prior to 2.1.2,
  54. you must update to 2.1.2 prior to updating to 2.1.3.

  58. Compatibility

  61. System 6
  62. --------
  63. Symptom: Eudora refuses to run.
  64. Explanation: Sorry, Eudora does not run under System 6.
  65. Workaround: None.
  66.  
  67. Apple Menu Options
  68. ------------------
  69. Symptom: Apple menu shows up in Forward To or Redirect To menus.
  70. Explanation: There is a conflict between Eudora and the control panel
  71. "Apple Menu Options".
  72. Workaround: Disable Apple Menu Options.  Other hierarchical Apple menu
  73. utilities (such as MenuChoice 2.0) do not suffer this problem.

  76. AppleTalk Remote Access:
  77. -----------------------
  78. Symptom: you get an alert that says "the selected port is in use".
  79. Explanation:  If you have ARA's "Answer calls" option selected (from Remote
  80. Access Setup from Setup), and you have Eudora configured to use the
  81. Communications Toolbox on the same port that ARA uses, Eudora may be unable
  82. to connect. This is a conflict between the Communications Toolbox and ARA.
  83. Workaround: Turn "Answer calls" off in ARA if you have this problem.

  86. Apple Modem Tool
  87. ----------------
  88. Symptom:  Eudora cannot login to your server, instead timing out during the
  89. navigation process.
  90. Explanation:  Eudora is incompatible with version 1.0 of the Apple Modem Tool.
  91. Solution: You must use version 1.1 or later of the Apple Modem Tool, or the
  92. Hayes Modem Tool.  We recommend the use of version 1.5 of the Apple Modem
  93. Tool.

  96. Moire
  97. -----
  98. Symptom: 68040-based Macintosh crashes when Eudora is launched.
  99. Explanation: Eudora is incompatible with the screen saver "Moire", when run
  100. with the 68040 caches enabled in 32-bit mode.
  101. Workaround: We suggest the freeware screen saver "DarkSide".
  102.  
  103.  
  104. NOW Utilities 4.0/SuperBoomerang
  105. -------------------------------
  106. Symptom: When launched, Eudora complains about being unable to open certain
  107. mailboxes, claiming they are "too large".
  108. Explanation: The "reopen documents" feature of SuperBoomerang is the
  109. problem It will not work as intended with Eudora, and it is really not
  110. necessary for Eudora anyway.
  111. Solution: You may disable this option by using the "Disable Re-Launch" menu
  112. in the "Exclude..." dialog in the SuperBoomerang control panel.
  113.  
  114. Symptom: You cannot set your application to open TEXT files or your
  115. attachments folder.
  116. Explanation: Versions of NOW Utilities prior to 4.0.1 interfere with this
  117. aspect of Eudora.
  118. Solution: Upgrade to NOW Utilities 4.0.1 or later.
  119.  
  120. Symptom: Eudora crashes when printing.
  121. Explanation: NOW Up-to-Date Reminder 2.0's Show Battery Status option
  122. causes crashes when Eudora is printing.
  123. Workaround: Turn Show Battery Status off.  NOW is aware of the problem, and
  124. has promised to fix it.

  126.  
  127. Norton Directory Assistance
  128. -------------------------
  129. Symptom: The attachment folder does not change, even if you set it with the
  130. dialog.
  131. Explanation: Norton Directory Assistance interferes with this aspect of Eudora.
  132. Workaround: Hold down the option key before clicking the button in the
  133. Attachments dialog, and keep it down until the Standard File dialog opens.

  136. Global Village PowerPort Modems
  137. ------------------------------
  138. Symptom: Attachments are sometimes corrupted or characters are lost in text
  139. messages.
  140. Explanation: Flow control in Powerbooks is very poor.
  141. Workaround: The best solution is to use version 1.5 of the Apple Modem
  142. Tool, set to "Software MNP" error correction.

  144.  
  145. CAP/aufs
  146. --------
  147. Symptom: Mailboxes are frequently corrupted.
  148. Explanation: CAP/aufs has a bug that causes problems with Eudora and a few
  149. other programs.
  150. Solution: A patch is available (#168); be sure you have it.

  152.  
  153. KA-Share
  154. --------
  155. Symptom: Attachments saved to KA-Share volumes cannot be opened from within
  156. Eudora.
  157. Explanation: KA-Share does not implement file id's.
  158. Workaround: Do not put your attachment folder on a KA-Share volume.

  160.  
  161. Apollo
  162. ------
  163. Symptom: Crashes.
  164. Explanation: Version 1.0 of the Apollo application launching utility cannot
  165. handle long window names (such as Eudora generates) if configured to sort
  166. windows alphabetically.
  167. Workaround: Use the Window menus page of the Preferences dialog to set the
  168. sorting to front-to-back.
  169.  
  170.  
  171. Greg's Buttons
  172. -------------
  173. Symptom: Dialup Eudora does not work.
  174. Explanation: Versions of Greg's Buttons prior to 3.0 may interfere with the
  175. Communications Toolbox.
  176. Solution: Upgrade to Greg's Buttons 3.0 or later.
  177.  
  178.  
  179. FileGuard 2.5.1
  180. -------------
  181. There are reports of problems between Eudora and FileGuard 2.5.1.
  182.  
  183.  
  184. DoubleScroll 2.0.3
  185. ----------------
  186. Symptom: Eudora windows scroll off into oblivion.
  187. Explanation: DoubleScroll has a bug.
  188. Workaround: None.  The author of DoubleScroll has promised a fix.

  190.  
  191. MenuChoice 1.9
  192. -------------
  193. Symptom: Choosing an item from a submenu of the Apple menu causes strange
  194. dialogs and crashes in Eudora.
  195. Explanation: MenuChoice 1.9 has a bug.
  196. Solution: Get MenuChoice 2.0 or later.

  198.  
  199. AutoDoubler
  200. -----------
  201. Symptom: None
  202. Explanation: Eudora normally uses "asynchronous" i/o to files, enabling
  203. smoother operations to file servers.  AutoDoubler interferes with
  204. asynchronous i/o.
  205. Workaround: Eudora automatically disables asynchronous i/o if it finds
  206. AutoDoubler on your system.  StuffIt SpaceSaver (Aladdin Systems) does not
  207. suffer from this problem, so you could also switch to that.

  210. Mac340
  211. -------
  212. Symptom: Strange font displays in Mac340 and/or Eudora.
  213. Explanation: Eudora and Mac340 both use private fonts, and there is an id
  214. conflict.
  215. Workaround: Use a font other than "Mishawaka" in Eudora.
